What are facial aesthetics treatments?

They are a group of treatments that reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles from around the eyes, forehead and between the eyebrows. The results are achieved using Botulinum Toxin Type A (often referred to as Botox) which is a muscle relaxant. The medication is introduced just below the surface of the skin to calm the muscles that cause the wrinkles.

Why do we provide this treatment?

I do a lot of dentistry, day in, day out, and a lot of different types of dentistry. More and more I'm finding the treatments that bring the most satisfaction to my patients are the ones that improve their appearance. Treatments such as tooth whitening, straightening the teeth, reshaping, repairing or replacing old fillings or crowns all give a new lease of life to the smile and people love how they look afterwards! I enjoy extending this feel good factor and pride of appearance to include other areas that my patients can feel better about - not just improve the smile itself but around the smile.

Being a dentist means I am extremely familiar with the workings of the face and mouth, both the musculature and the nerve pathways, as well as what affects facial appearance. This experience helps me to predict what effects my treatments will have after the muscles have relaxed.

People often worry that the injections will be sore, as a dentist I have been doing hundreds of injections every week for over 10 years and my whole practice is built on making these as comfortable as possible, this all helps to make your experience an enjoyable one.

I also adhere to strict confidentiality policies, and demand the same high standard of all my staff. This is extra important when dealing with sensitive issues such as facial appearance.

What to expect.

Our aim is to enhance your own facial features and appearance, encouraging you to look more rested and refreshed. Precise placement and dosing will be individually tailored so that a "frozen" or "done" look is avoided.

This treatment is the cornerstone of modern non-surgical cosmetic treatments and works wonderfully to make you look relaxed and stress free.

The three areas we focus on are between the eyebrows, the lines at the corners of your eyes when you smile, also known as crow's feet, and forehead lines.

On a more practical side of things there is an assessment appointment initially to discuss what you would like and what treatments may be suitable to achieve your goals. This appointment is free of charge.

After this we can organise an appointment for you to receive the actual treatment. This should take between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on how many areas you are having treated.

Results are evident after 3-4 days and are seen fully after 10 to 14 days. At this point we will arrange a review appointment to make sure you are happy with your appearance and to provide any top-ups or adjustments that may be needed. Results last on average 3-4 months, after this your muscle activity comes back and you look just the way you did before.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the number of areas you have treated, one area costs €190, two areas €250 and three areas costs €290.

Is everyone suitable?

Botulinum toxin injections work to reduce wrinkles that are caused by muscle activity. If you do not have any wrinkles the treatment will have no effect for you. If you have wrinkles even when you are not actively smiling or frowning or making other facial expressions then you may need other adjunctive treatments such as dermal fillers to achieve the results you are looking for.

You may also not be suitable for this treatment if you have allergies to any of the constituents of the medicines used, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have certain blood clotting or muscle activity disorders. A full discussion of risks will be carried out at your assessment appointment.
